Responsibilities of Higher Education Department
To prepare necessary basic infrastructure in colleges and universities, provide physical and financial resources, and fill up the posts.
Study: To ensure the quality of teaching, encourage academic and research work in colleges. To promote higher education in tribal and remote rural areas.
To introduce new job-oriented courses and traditional subjects/courses as per local demand and utility.
To encourage, expand and develop activities related to sports, cultural, literary, and moral education and academic activities in colleges and universities.
To promote the concept of self-governing colleges to make the colleges academically self-sufficient.
To encourage non-government colleges given the expansion of higher education and the policy of not opening new government colleges due to limited financial resources.
To make the colleges financially strong and ensure public participation in the development. Establishment and operation of National Service Scheme and units of National Cadet Corps in colleges.
To make colleges and universities according to the norms of the University Grants Commission and get them evaluated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
Conduct self-employment/business-oriented training programs of National University IGNOU in colleges. To promote distance learning through the Open University.
The operation, quality review, and providing financial resources to all universities and colleges (except medical, veterinary, engineering, technical, and agricultural colleges).
